Hi all, i'm getting ready to start a recover and will be adding tail grab handles, skylight, sholder belts, and steel stringers. Are there any mods to the airframe i need to do or would be recommended while the covering is removed?
There may be some airframe reinforcement at the rear door also, for the seaplane upgrade....Jeremy would know. That would be a good idea for future use, resale, etc.
Thanks. The plane was on floats at one time according to log books but I dont see any thing that look like float mounts. I will have to ad them to the list.
The rear attach points for earlier Maules come with the floats to be used.
The float plane fuselage re-inforcement tubing is what you are looking for and that is what Duane is referring to re the drawings.
Now i get it.. So Since it was on floats at one time it would have the reinforcing tubing or could someone put floats on without the reinforcement in place?
Someone could have mounted floats without the reinforcement.
There is a retrofit reinforcement kit that requires welding in some U channel stiffeners plus an external front mount carry through tube.

Apologies for reviving this old thread. Do later aircraft ('93 MX-7-180A for me) have this incorporated into the airframe, or would have been an option during build time?
It's probably obvious since these two drawings on the parts CD are in the "Optional Accessories Group" section. But thought I'd ask nonetheless.
Thanks!

Chris, your airplane is re-inforced.
The weld and tube requirement is for M4.
The other mention of weld on brackets is and was an option for mounting floats. Some mount with clamp/bolt on brackets and some mount to rear welded brackets.
