Hello,
I am a newbie here and I am interested in purchasing a Maule. My first inclination was to find a T version, since I have no TW experience. I am a military pilot with about 650 IP hours in the T-6 Texan II and 2450 total (C-17/C-141/T-1/T-37). I read a post on here that said I am one of the most likely candidates for an accident (I'm not surprised), so I am trying to head their advice and get some time in a Maule or other TW to make an informed decision about my ability and my desire to fly a TW. I tried to search for an instructor in the area, but I could not find anyone closer than Dallas or Houston on-line. Does anyone know of an instructor in the San Antonio area that could teach me the art of flying a TW. I am willing to take a trip to one of the Maule dealers for certification, but after reading the forums, I realize I may need more time than that to get the experience I would need.
Thanks,
Kevin |

Mark,
That would be great. I actually talked with Jeremy at Maule Worldwide and learned a lot of great information about the history of Maule aircraft and the T models specifically. We discussed the benefits of both aircraft thoroughly. I am in the StoneOak area and I think I am closer to Bulverde than anywhere else. I haven't been out there, but I think it would be the most convenient airstrip from my location. I will PM you my phone number so we can talk more. Thanks again for the response and offer.

If I were you, I would try to con Jeremy into some instruction if he does that. I don't know if he does or not. But if you could talk him into it, fly commercial to where he is and plan on a few days.
There is more to this tail wheel thing than you might think, but it is similar to riding a bicycle. Hard as the devil until it just clicks, when it clicks, you wonder why you though it was so hard
Have you ever hovered a helicopter? |

210TC is in New Braunfels...David is not a CFI, but he might be persuaded to take you for a ride.
There is a good instructor in Spring, but that is not any closer than Houston...there are at least (2) 260hp Maules there in Spring and a good instructor as well. _________________ "To most people, the sky is the limit. To a pilot, the sky is home."
Still a bit cloudy when it comes to aviation insurance? Find some clarity: Clear on Top |

There are a couple of Texas instructers in the Instructer list in Pilot Lounge here. _________________ Jeremy
