I want to replace my old Dzus fasteners on my cowlings with stainless steel ones prior to painting. Has anyone done this? I would appreciate any and all advice on how to do this without damaging the fiberglass surrounding the grommet.

Curt
I'm probably the least qualified to offer advise, and my experience is limited to the m5 which has oval head studs, no grommets.
The Dzus fasteners should be easily removable, they frequently fall out when the cowl is removed.
Do you have grommets that need to be removed?

Sorry I haven't seen the system you have.
I can offer a caution, using heat on fiberglass can make it malleable and it will take the shape that it is in when it cools.
