8.50 Tires / Double Puck Brakes
I plan to put 8.50 tires on my M5-210 and double puck Cleveland brakes.
Any tips about this installation. Is it legal off the TC or does it require a field approval?
Spealkng of field approvals, make sure your IA knows that there is a new AC 43.13-1B/ 2B out. Much of the information in the 2B is now approved data and can be used on a 337
Any recommendations for a source for these parts?
thanks

If your only going to 8.50's, why double pucks? Pretty sure the double pucks are an option and therefore on the TCDS. Have you considered the 29's from Alaska Bushwheel? Give them a chance to bid on the parts for the brakes at least, then of course Aircraft Spruce, but AK Bushwheels would send you everything you might need like spacers etc. , but pretty sure spruce or others wouldn't unless you know to ask and by part number.

Brakes
I find my brakes adaquate but that is all. When I converted my Stinson to double puck brakes it was like getting power brakes. A real improvement.
My discs are very rusty and need to be replaced. I figured I would upgrade while I was at it.
Thanks again.

8.50's and double pucks
Get an estimate on labor and parts costs for the upgrade then call AK Bushwheels.
The whole deal from AKBW w/ gear may be less than the bits and pieces.

Last March I bought the Cleveland dual-puck wheel conversion kit and flexible stainless steel brakelines from Alaskan Bushwheels for my 1986 MX-7-180. I put Goodyear 8.50x6 tires and tubes on as well at Jeremy's suggestion. Alaskan Bushwheels was great to deal with. Wup gave me a good price and great service. They supply some spacers that aren't included in the Cleveland kit. There's quite a bit on this subject in the old threads. Take a look. My experience with the brakes and wheels over the last year is that you get smoother stopping power, less brake pad wear and longer rotor life (3/8" vs. 1/4" rotor) with the dual puck brakes. The flexible stainless steel brake lines are a must to prevent fatigue and cracking in the brake lines. The Goodyear tires and tubes are better quality than the Air Hawks that I used to use and last longer as Jeremy predicted. I find the 8.50x6 tires to be just the right size for my kind of flying. They're big enough to work on soft, soggy grass fields but small enough to work on hard surface runways. I like the way the larger tires give more cushion on landings in rough fields and a little more ground clearance for the propeller tips.

The approval for the brakes and wheels is on the aircraft equipment list, not the type certificate... I beleive you can get a copy of the equipment list off the Maule website... http://www.mauleairinc.com/Required%20Equip.%20List.PDF
