Titanium Firewall

Post by Partsandplanes »

Has anyone had any experience with putting in or building a titanium firewall? I have a 1980 M5-235C that I have down to the frame. Any ideas for a wish list of things to do?

Currently:
Rear float attach points
Grab Handles
Rear Stabilizer mounts
Lift Rings
Stainless cables
Replaced all wooden formers with metal, including stainless steel bottom bow
Considering replacing the firewall with a titanium sheet. Does anyone have any experience in doing this? Is it hard to work with?

Fully sandblasted and getting ready for two coats of epoxy, so i figured now is the time!.
Thanks!
David

Popular question. A similar one came up in the Bearhawk group today.

Is there any benefit to the material? Aside from weight, I suppose. I can't imagine titanium sheet is cheap!

Assuming you are going w/ Ceconite, anything to get the CG back some on the M5-235C on floats is a bonus.

Add extended baggage area and swing up doors. I have pictures and 337's if interested.
