Firewall putty

Post by JLB »

I have a '74 M5 220 and am in the process of reinstalling the overhauled engine. It has a black putty sealing all the firewall penetrations and I have not been able to locate a source, what are you folks using?

Quick Google search led me here:

Duct Seal Putty or a Zinc Chromate Putty.

Another link with some good info maybe.

Oops, I was wrong about Aircraft Spruce. We use the Flamemaster from Aviall.

Everything you ever wanted to know about firewall sealants

Make sure to open the embedded pics from DanH in the above forum since he did testing on a bunch of the different firewall sealants and posted results.

From aircraft spruce another good product:

High Temp RTV not nearly as high temp as the flamemaster putty stuff.. Works ok for CO2 leakage, but not worth anything in case of real fire...
