M vs MX 7 235

Post by mmiller54 »

I'm new to the site. Considering a Maule purchase. Would like to know the major difference between the 2. Both structural and performance. Thank you.

I am desirous of a very capable 2 place aircraft with good power. Carry 2 average size adults, camping gear and dog. May add floats. Want the ability to add a 3rd or 4th passenger of average size but rarely. I am looking at a 2002 M 7 235 on wheels and a 1986 MX 7 on straight floats. I have 3600 TT but most flying high and fast. Now want to go slow, low and fun.

The 2002 has Oleo gear and is an O 540. Does have "patrol" doors and "sunroof" (for lack of proper terminology). Older IFR panel but neat and very workable. Also VGs. And factory float kit. On the downside it was ground looped twice. Once at 9 hours the other at 50 hours. Does fly very true and was repaired by well known Maule shop.

Early MX7 has the shorter wing, from '94 on MX7 and M7 have same universal longer wings. MX7 is basically same fuselage as M5, slightly shorter in cabin cargo area then the M7... Not much difference in headroom... If looking at floatplane options, the early MX7 with short wing will not perform as well as the longer winged M7, but if MX7 is 94 or later will be almost identicle between 2 models. MX7 tends to be slightly lighter then the M7 with identicle gross weights.

If you are planning to go to higher lakes on floats the longer wing M7 would be my choice.

If you are staying in the midwest then either will work admirably.

IMHO
