I like the seaplane doors as they make entry/egress much easier. Also, in the event of an off-field landing you can get out of the door if you lose a strut and the wing falls. That safety feature alone sold me.
They probably are draftier than conventional doors but having only had the seaplane doors I couldn't say for sure. The door edge is bent down toward the fuselage on three sides (hinge at the top). Foam weatherstripping affixed to the door perimeter to form the seal.

You could do what I have done on a number of occasions. Do a face first arrival on the dock when hooking a foot trying to get out around the standard door.The gull-wing would be so useful on floats. Now, it's hard to get out, then get to the front of the float quickly since the factory door hits the strut.

I don't have a dock, so it's usually face first into the water which is a little softer, but up here very cold!!!
