Beware what shoes you wear while flying

I bought a new pair of Hoka Graviota 5 Wide shoes for walking. I have issues finding walking/running shoes that have enough room in the toe box. These things are perfect for we pronators and paddle feet wearers but the heels and front soles are so wide they over lapped the "ears" on the rudder pedals.

Didn't really give it a thought when I wore them flying my M5-235C. The couple of times I wore them in the plane they seemed a little awkward, but no real problems . Last Sunday I was flying into KORS with a quartering headwind that rolled over the hill and trees on the left. Not all that unusual for KORS. Issue came when I was working the rudder and wings trying to keep the nose on the center line at flare. The sole of the left shoe got trapped under the right pedal about 4 ft above the runway.

It was a bit "sporty" but didn't bend anything.

Short message, make sure your foot wear doesn't interfere w/ the rudder petals or laces don't get in the aileron cables.

Good advice Tom. I heard you on the radio headed into WN13 the other day. I was departing W10 on the same frequency and it was good to hear a fellow Mauler on the radio. We're overdue for a flyout. I'll give you a call. Hopefully before I head out in my Maule to visit the east coast and AirVenture on the way home.
