STOL mods on a Maule wing
Have slats been installed onto a Maule M4/5 wing? If so how did the aircraft perform? Also I have been looking at the performance STOL slotted flaps and I interested in knowing whether these have been installed onto a Maule wing? Would the slotted flaps help or hinder a slatted wing?
Thanks!
Thanks!

To me if I can start with a Maule wing, which is what shortwing Piper guys are trying to build and modify it will be ideal. Such items I am interested in are the leading edge slats, slotted flaps, wing fences and modified wingtips that can be installed on a Maule wing. To me a light weight Pacer fuselage with Super Cub tail surfaces and modified Maule wings with the mods I am pondering will make for a great performer. For the powerplant I currently have a 0-320 rated for 160hp but have been looking into the ACE modified/rebuilt 0-360 with a C/S prop.

My build is on my short wing Experimental Pacer. The M4/5 has the larger flaps and ailerons near the wingtip which is what some experimental Pacer owners are trying to achieve with the stock Pacer wing. Trimmer aviation in Alaska has successfully done this to a short wing Pacer wing. The Maule wing will be heavier, but I feel it's a stronger wing compare to the Pacers and if I can find a set of wings with increased fuel capacity then that's a bonus too. I do want to own a Bushmaster someday and have it on Amphibs. Thanks!

The metalized Maule wing will hold its airfoil shape better at cruise speeds than a fabric wing will; hence why the Maule wing is metal clad. Maule has gotten away from the droop tips and are now using the Horner tips. The 33+ ft Maule wings are what most folks want these days for excellent STOL performance. They do require more horsepower to force a greater cruise speed. Food for thought.

Are there any companies out there that offer STOL mods for Maule aircraft? Wing fences/wingtips etc.? Another question I have is how effective/responsive are the Maule ailerons at slow speeds? It seems as the models progressed the flaps enlarged while the ailerons decreased. Has anyone ever extended the ailerons in a experimental Maule? Or are the M4/M5 ailerons effective enough?
Comparing the Pacer/Maule wing:
Pacer
29'3" wingspan
72" aileron
52" flap
Maule M4 "late version"
30'10" wingspan
69.5" aileron
70.5" flap
Maule M5
30'10" wingspan
61.6" aileron
90" flap

That would be sweet!
Then with just the mains full and two occupants and 120# in back I could take off from grass in 350' with a density altitude of 3000'
or with a density altitude of 7500' and at max gross I could take off in 700'
ohhh wait, IT ALREADY DOES THIS!
