Second Landing Light Mod?

Post by belandd »

I have a M5-210 with one landing light out on the left wing.. It isn't much of a light. Is there a legal mod to install a landing light on the right wing so i will have two landing lights?

The wireing is already in the wing leading edge.
It is an easy install. For better/longer life use the Quartz Halogen sealed beam units, half the power and stronger light, and will last very much longer.
We used to add another landing light instead of repairing a damaged leading edge as long as it did'nt involve a rib.

Jeremy, do you have a PN for the quartz replacement?

The standard unit is GE 4509 of 100 watts. approx $11.00
Replace with GE Q4509 with 100 watts. approx $24.00

I've got the dual landing lights and love 'em. I've got one adjusted a little higher than the other and that gives a better spread of the light beam.

The halogen "Q" bulbs are well worth it. Incadescents lasted only 25 hours and the halogens have over 200 on them so far with no failure!

I have no lights at my field just the reflective chevrons. With the new quartz lights, I can get them lit up at about 4 miles on a straight in as opposed to 1-2 miles on the old ones. They're amazing!
I recall at one of the Maule fly-ins, there was a yellow plane that had no less than four lights in the wing. I was told he had an off airport adventure and rectified the repair with more lights!

Yeah, I some times land at private strips around North Pole and they are unlighted. some have reflectors, some don't.
