M4 180hp conversion

Post by zamfire »

I recently got a 1965 M4 with the O-300. Quite happy with it but it would certainly be better with the 180. Fixed pitch is what I want.
The TCDS lists the options as -C1F and -C4F.

Question: can I use any other version of the O-360? The differences are minor and should be field-approvable, one would think.
Or convert another type of O-360 to the -C1F or C4F? That seems a silly paper exercise and incessant expense, but so is all of this.

Be nice to drop a new IO-390 in there... 8)
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Don't really want mess mess with injection engines.

Apparently the paperwork for this Lyc.O-360 mod has been on the FAA's desk for 4 years now. Because it's so difficult: Imagine a 180 hp engine in a Maule! It's never been done before!! Oh, wait...
