seat recover

Post by cj8vet »

Thinking about buying approved material and taking the seats to a local upholstery shop as suggested, (I think on this sight some time back). anyone know how much material per seat I need to order? 2 fronts 1 back.
2nd- how easy is seat removal?
3rd- what are the logbook requirements? wgt/balance?
Thanks
Mark

Couple yards per seat should do it.
Seats are either stupid easy to remove or crazy hard. Depends on you and your airplane.
Not sure about log books, probably more of a seat fairy thing I would guess. I had mine redone by Oregon aero and the came with an encyclopedia of documents soo...

Just completed the same job with my IA no significant weight change.
Tips...one shop said 3 leather hides to do the seating surfaces on 2 front and rear bench. Took 1 cow hide. Two would do the entire seats easily.
Bought leather hides treated them (easy job) and had sample sent off to get burn cert. (Two beautiful light green leather hides for sale! $275.00 ea)
Saved 70% over leather from aviation approved suppliers.
Seat backs in vinyl from NAUGAHYDE SPIRIT MILLENNIUM FAA approved vinyl.
Confor foam from Seatfoam.com with burn cert. Hard foam when cold but warms and forms to you. Supposed 26g rating.
While at it..did seat belts. http://aircraftseatbelts.com Great job, quick turn around!
Seats out pretty easy. Seats back in medium difficulty.
Upholstery shop did ok job not sure they liked me furnishing everything as they missed out on mark up. Total was about 2k plus 0.8k for 4 belts with upgraded webbing.
