Where are we at on this? I am pretty confident that between me and another guy we could build one no problem - is there an actual STC of any kind?

Could the one from the ag application be used as a basis for a 337 if needed?

We (Yellow Maule and I), dropped off a fuselage at Carbon Concepts last night for Randy to use for building the first prototype. I wouldn’t put a hard timeline on this right now, but maybe he will get the first belly pod layed up this winter??

Do we know if he is going after an actual STC or just 337?

Thank you Yellow maule and Stick-rudder! Wouldn’t it be nice to get rid of the tip tanks and plumbing way out in the wings and plumb ina 33gallon turtle pac ferry bladder in the pod. It would keep the weight low and centered and could quickly be removed when you want to go light. I am looking forward to a good light pod for the Maule.

I like the fuel idea, I was kinda out on a belly pod until you said that.

Now you're talking! Fuel in pod!
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Well, we have progress!
S/R & I met with Randy today. He's got the PA-12/14 pod mocked up on the Maule to begin the design process. he Maule being much wider will allow the pod to accommodate accordingly. The length currently looks pretty good while accounting for the oleo placement. A fuel tank was also discussed.
It'll be fun to see what Randy comes up with.
I'll try to keep an update on the progress.

Any new news here? We're about to update an M-5 fuse and would consider tabs and antenna placement to accommodate a belly pod.

Still no progress on the approval. However, there are 4 aircraft that are going to be submitted for approval hopefully, soon. All wider bodies like the PA-14, Maule and such. I will make some inquiries this weekend. (It's fishing season, moving into hunting season and everyone is scattered at the moment.)
There was a PA-12 that just had a pod installed despite the weight of the paper and it took an hour or so to install. Pretty quick really.
The antennas will be the only issue. Keep them forward of the gear legs or aft of the passenger area and you'll be fine.
I know, it 's taking longer than hoped for. I'm looking forward to the approval as much as anyone. It's on the short list of things I need to finish this plane.
