Why an 83" MT prop if MAC 86" is approved on the J engines? Wouldn't an 86" MT be more of an apples to apples comparison? Does MT not manufacture an 86" model? Just curious, I don't pretend to be a propeller/aerodynamic engineer, any insights?

The 86â€￾ has tyre size or extended gear limitation requirements for FAA ground clearance and only works at the 2400 rpm because of tip speed noise limits.

Thanks Jeremy I understand that and I happen to meet all those requirements. I've been on the fence about a prop change. I have an M6, GoodYear 26", HD Extended Gear, O-540J , 81" MAC and Universal wings. I like the idea of lightening the nose using an MT but wonder why an 83" as oppposed to 86" for my specific application. although I like the thought of an all aluminum prop vs wood core. . Maybe I should just save my Sheckles and throw them at Av Gas or Trick Air skis instead I don't actually need any more mods but I'm addicted to the fun gactor.

Keeping my eyes out for an 86" MacCauley C224 myself, for my M6 in case anyone happens to see a decent deal they'd be willing to share.

Does anyone have experience or at least insight with newly STC'd Hartzell Composite trailblazer propellor. It looks like the two blade 80" is STC'd although there is an 83" version as well.

It's good to see that Hartzell finally came out with an alternative to the legacy props for some of the fleet. However, at $16.8K for the 2 blade and $21K+ for the 3 blade, it sure makes the 2 blade MT look attractive at significantly less cost.

The price for a two blade MT is the same as the two blade Hartzell when you figure in the field approval cost for the MT, I can't speak to the three blade. I know this because I put the two blade MT on my M6. The MT is a good smooth, performer and saved me 17.5 lbs on the nose when I replaced the 81" McCauley. Another value to the MT is the excellent customer service and support that both John and Larry of Flight Resources provide. I was just curious how the 80" Hartzell compared to the longer Mt on the J series Lycomings.

It would be nice if someone (hint, hint) would create an STC for the MTV-15 prop. I emailed MT in Germany a while ago and asked if they had any plans for a Maule STC- they said it wasn't in their plans.

May have a chance to dump my three blade Hartzell for a lighter prop. Thinking two blade Trailblazer or MT. Can anyone give me lengths and model numbers.

Gbarrier,
For Mt info for your Maule call:

I do know that the trailblazer is NOT STC’D for the B4B5 engine, nor are there any plans for it in the future. That’s from Hartzell.

I have a W1A5 but guess it doesn't matter as just found out that my prop will not fit the application the guy was going to buy it for.

The Hartzell is a good prop. Just a little heavy on the nose of an already nose heavy bird.

Gbarrier, The two blade prop that MT normally stocks and typically field approves for use on O-540 Maules is part # MTV-15 B/210-58. There are different spinners available which you will need to choose from. I have an M6 with the O-540 J1A5D and I went with MT's spinner model P-277-3. I liked the larger diameter as opposed to the other choices they gave me, although there are other measurements involved to insure proper clearance between the spinner trailing edge and the cowl. The 210 in the propellor model # stands for 210 cm, MT refers to it as an 83" although technically it's 82.68". For what it's worth I run the 213cm (83.86") , I've have time behind the 210 and the 213 on the J1A5D and honestly didn't notice any difference in performance.
