31' Dresser Tundra Tires Installed (pics)

Hello Maule Pilots,

I just installed a set of Dresser 31' Smooth Tundra Tires on my 1973 Maule M-4. They replaced a well worn set of 29' Airhawks. The tires mounted up easily on my 10' Alaska Bushwheel wheels. The valve stems on the 1100-12 inner-tubes were a little short, but worked. A little contact cement was added to all the beads to prevent slippage.

Obtaining a FAA 337 Field Approval wasn't a big deal either. Anyway looking forward to trying them out!

Nice! How much do they weigh and what pressure do you run?

Description:
31/11-10 4 PLY AERO CLASSIC SMOOTH TUNDRA TIRE
New Aero Classic Tundra 31 x 11.00-10 4 Ply

THIS TIRE IS FOR 10 INCH WHEEL.
Our "Pillow Soft" 31 x 11.00-10 4 Ply stands 31 inches tall and weighs in "featherlight" at 25 lbs. Can be used Tubeless or with tubes.

crbnunit,

25 pounds each plus the tube. I aired them up to 10 psi to start will, but think that 6 to 8 psi would be perfect for off-airport operations. I also added contact cement to all the beads to prevent any slippage. The contact cement worked great on my 29' Airhawks after shearing a valve stem without it. Free shipping too & no tax. I'll have a pirep on the 31s after next weekend.

Will these tires fit on a 6" wheel with gar aero adapters?

From the research that I did the Gar Aero 10' Adapters are supposed to work with these 31' tires. You will need the correct inner tube 1100-12. I also have an oversized Gar Aero tail-fork with the $28 replacement tire, rather than a $400 baby bushwheel.

Whoa, more info and a pic of that tailwheel/fork!!

Oh and were those 29's shaved? I have a set of brand new 29's, wondering about getting them shaved.

Hello Maule Pilots,

I don't have the extended gear. It wasn't available when I needed a new set of landing gear (long story). That is the Maule HD gear, a great product but not cheap. At the time I also purchased the 10' ABI wheels and shaved 29' Airhawks. Just recently I noticed a break in one of the Airhawks tread so I upgraded to these 31' Tundra Tires. Anyway I look forward to many years with this new set of shoes;)

31' Desser Tundra Tire PIREP

Hello Maule Pilots,

I am really enjoying the new tires. That said they only measure 29 inches from the ground at 10 psi compared to a Husky equipped with 31 inch AK Bushwheels located in my hanger at an honest 31'. My shaved 29x10-11 Airhawks only measured only 26' from the ground.

I now have them aired down to 8 psi and that seems about perfect for most operations. If I were to need to operate in some really rocky areas I could easily reduce the psi to 6.

So anyway, I ordered up a 0-15 psi ATV tire pressure gauge from amazon.com that accurately measures these lower pressures. I can still easily see over the engine cowling of my M-4 with the new tires. If you however are looking for a true 31' tire these tires are not it. But for half the price of the 31' AK Bushwheels I'm am very satisfied.

Thankyou for the report James. It'll be interesting to see how they wear.
Is there any indication of the durability of the rubber compound used in the paperwork (if any) that came with tyres.
