Performance Exhaust system for Lyc 540 powered Maules

Post by Hale-Yes »

Dane Wagner, of Leading Edge Exhaust Systems <wwwwemakeyoufly> is going to start working on a STC performance exhaust system for the Lycoming 540 powered Maule's. He is looking for the front of a fuselage with an engine mount and cowling to use as a mock up. If anyone knows where he might find one, please contact Dane at performance@wemakeyoufly. It would be great to have a performance exhaust available for the 540 powered Maule's. Regards, Ed

I would happily 'test' his products once he gets one finished.

o-540 EXHAUST

He has a chore on his hands to keep the CG in check and get all that piping squeezed into the space under the cowling.

I sat in on his 180 HP exhaust seminar in Moultrie in 2014 and was amazed at the piping on that rig.

The Maule boys and girls are busy with the exact same project in South Africa for the 540 engine and the 210 Continental. The continental is almost done

exhaust

Tim Boughner has an exhaust system he installs under a 337 that markedly reduces the cracking issues w/ the Maule system along with other advantages. I have the 1.2 version on my O-540J1A5D which I have been flying behind for 11 years with NO issues.

Performance's "claim to fame" is a "tuned" exhaust. I will be interested to see the performance increase vs the $$ and weight involved with their solution.

We are looking at a ten percent performance increase, cost is below $1000 to manufacture, will only be able to confirm after dyno test
