McCauley 2A34C67 info.
Hi all fellow Maule fans.
I have a M4-210C, on floats in the summer and wheels in the winter.
Time has come for the dreaded prop overhaul.......the shop said no no after a thorough investigation due to blade thickness.
Here comes the questions;
1.) Does anyone know of a set of serviceable blades for the 2A34C67 or a complete prop. Preferrably in EASA land...?
2.) Is there any Maule M4 or M5 out there with Continental IO360A or D under EASA register that happens to have another approved prop installed, under grandfather rights or by some other STC ? I have been given an offer by David Wright for a 2A34C209 prop STC but I can not afford 15000:- USD plus STC validation costs by EASA.
Any info or help is greatly appreciated, I am continuing my search for a 2A34C67 in the meantime....
Thanks in advance and keep up the good Maule job everyone.
Best regards,
Carl.[/img]

Carl
That is a beautiful plane. The prop you want is the d2a34c203.The propeller is used on Cessna 180's and 182's and is 82 to 90 inch common sizes,Certified with Type Certificate P3EA, it will require the low pitch stop to be adjusted to about 10.3 degrees, I came up with this figure by looking at the Cessna 337 in the McCauley propeller application guide available for free at the McCauley website, and interpolated for the 80 inch propeller, you cannot put it on legally without paperwork, but it wiil work.I have submitted a pile of paperwork for the 80 inch which is all I can get approved here. I have the IO 360 Db engine so it is slightly easier, but the Feds ask for some information that is not readily available. You can get the rights to use a Stc they use on Cessna 170 b and ask for a STC deviation fron your FEDs. The STC number is SA00728SE. I talked to the owner last week and he said he would sell the rights to use it for 1000 dollars. It stiil will not be easy since the engine for that STC is the IO360 C ,but it is simular according to the Type Certificate E1CE for the engine. His name is
Thomas Anderson Phone number 509-884-9546 he is located in th state of Washington USA. There is a wealth of information available free online at faa.gov and McCauley that you will need. I am a IA and have spent about 60 hours so far researching. There is a STC for a Stinson with a IO 360 C engine which was STC'ed with a 82 inch propeller, I have that STC copy, but have never got in touch with yhe owner Wayne Alsworth Sr you have to get a copy from Faa. I could scan you a copy if you send me your Email. I hope the info. is helpful.
Good Luck

The performance increase from the D2A34C203 will be worth the effort. It should be even more noticeable on floats. There are quite a few of us here that have made the switch on the IO 360D engines. The feds here won't let us go over 80" though there is plenty of data out there suggesting 82" is just fine on this engine. Getting coppies of the American paperwork shouldn't be a problem at least.
Wayne Alsworth Sr is not horribly far from here. I don't know him personally but I met him in years past. He is out at Lake Clark at Port Alsworth. Runs a lodge out there.

You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

D2a34c67 blades
Hi Carl
Look at all the used prop shops maybe someone has some.
The 2a34c209 78 is availalble. It seems yo could get one cheaper than 15000. He must charge alot for his stc. The STC for the Cessna would be cheaper. You still have to find aprop though.
Bye

I have done several field approvals of the C203 on the IO360 and it's worth the effort, especially on floats. This prop is approved on the Cessna Hawk XP with the IO 360, on floats... The Super Stinson STC now owned by the Alworth's is actually owned by a group of individuals, and I've been trying to buy their STC for the O-470 conversion for about a year now. They are not currently ramped up for production and beginning to wonder if they ever will? That STC does you no good anyway, as it applies to the Stinson, and could be used to help with justification on the Maule only... Not sure of ERISA's requirements, but in reality the original prop is pretty much obsolete, and talk to prop shop the C203 is the replacement... Good luck!!

Don't forget that Hartzell has a better prop for the Continental IO-360. I had the McCaulley D2A34C67 on my Globe Swift and it met an unfortunate demise when my buddy put it over on its nose.
Now I have the Hartzell BHC-C2YF-1BF/F7663DR on my IO-360D and it is great!
The prop can be purchased new thru the Swift Museum Foundation at a bit of a discount. I think I paid around $7800 for it.
If you need better, more accurate info. I can dig for the invoice.

The straight 2A is one you'll want for the IO 360.... the prefix "D" reflects dowel pin location in hub vs prop blades location on crank...
Indicates dowel location with respect to
centerline through blade sockets, viewing hub
from flange mounting face.
Blank - 60° and 240° clockwise
B - 0° and 180° clockwise
C - 120° and 300° clockwise
D - 90° and 270° clockwise
E - 30° and 210° clockwise
F - two alternate locations - 150° and 330°
clockwise, or 90° and 270° clockwise
