New Door and Window mechanism

Post by AK Mauler »

Wow! I just personally tested the new door and window mechanisms on the 2007 Maules. Finally windows and doors that are simple and work great. I undeerstand there is an upgrade kit to install the new door mechanism. It looks fairly simple to install and the operation is fantastic, a very nice lever replaces the interior knob. Up is locked down opens the door, no more special technique or special instructions to passengers. Also the doors close very smooth with a gentle push. The new window latch is also much nicer and includes a mini-gas strut that gently raises the window. I was told the door mechanism kit will go for around $400. I'm not ready to break down and buy it, but it will go on the wish list.

Maule is so proud of this mechanism they have built display units for trade shows. I will see if I can get a picture of the display unit and post it.

The only bad thing with the gas strut window is that it is either all up or fully closed. No intermediate position. Is cool to operate though.

I didn't think that was a bad thing, that is why I wanted it... One hand operation! no fumbleing with a dumb little knob while I am flyin

I would definitely be in the market for the window set.

I bought the gas struts some time ago but not done any mod for it, never liked the idea of sticking the window in the up position onto the wing as it will stop you from opening the door.

Great if someone can post some pictures and a price.

it was $45 from Maule and you set it up so it don't hit the wing.... I will post some pictures this afternoon.

You will need a Nut-zert Tool for the install

Maul door

Post by TomD »

Is the swing up "float plane" door still viable for M5's.

I have made a couple of less than graceful exits when docking in a wind or current when my foot caught going out the door to secure a line.

Thanks for those.

Do the windows still have to be kept shut with the 'pin' or does this mechanism overcentre?
