Pretty easy to tell the difference.
Fibreglass is yellow/cream colour and Carbon fibre is blackish with a tighter weave.
A local glider repair shop has reinforced a CF cowl with fiberglass

Thanks, that's good information. So just to make sure I've got this right, If the cowling is CF, it's not all CF. But no matter what it is, it can be repaired with fiberglass?

I saw it done and it looked fine.
I didn’t see it after more years of use and vibration but have no reason to believe it is still not okay.

Back many, many moons ago I used to do fiberglass work on gliders. We used fiberglass to repair non-structural carbon areas.

Just as an aside... Someone is working on a Maule mold for carbon cowling. I can't remember if it is Carbon Concepts here in AK but that seems likely. I've been following the thread on Facebook in the Those Who Fly Maules forum.

If it is Carbon Concepts, they do excellent work. It will be interesting to see what the final weight and cost will be.
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Carbon concepts I saw made a 540 cowl
16 lb top and bottom combined. 10lb weight drop off the nose. 2200 bucks.

Said there working on the 210 cowl. Had pics on their fb site

I know of a couple carbon cowls that have been out there for some time now. CC did not produce them. Would nice to see a revised carbon cowl for the Franklin. But that’s wishful thinking.
