Stec 50 Question

Post by netconn »

I'd sure like to install an autopilot in my M5-235.. I see Stec 50's up for sale. Does anyone know what servo part numbers and control head part number are certified for Maules? Anyone have an install manual for Stec / Maule?

Even though the S-Tec 50 is on the optional equipment list, as I recall, S-Tec does not support a piecemeal installation. What that means is that you would need a control head from a Maule since it needs to be programmed for the specific type aircraft it is installed in.

Do a search for the topic and you might find a report from someone who has attempted that. Lacking that, you could call S-Tec support and “ask for a friend” what the requirements are.

To answer your main question, you would have to contact Maule for the installation drawing if no one is able to give you the specifics.

Looked into that several years ago. The only way to get anything from S-Tec is to buy an install kit which includes the stc. That is if you could find a used unit from a Maule. Was quit expensive and may not be available now since the only one they sell these days is the 55.

Saw something several months ago about Garmin was going to use someone's Maule for a test bed and expect something mid 2025. But then I'm not a real believer in time lines. Does anyone else remember seeing this?
