Rain drops on windscreen in flight

Post by snaproll »

I've been flying the M5 in quite a bit of rain lately through the Canadian Rockies. I'm surprised that the rain doesn't streak off the windscreen like it does on other airplanes I fly. It just stays beaded up and makes it really difficult to see through.

I'm using Plexo to clean the plastic and am wondering if that is the problem. I've also thought about using Rain-X but am not sure how it will react with the plastic.

Thoughts?

Hmmm. The rain streaks off my M5 windscreen just fine.

Don't know if it makes a difference but I use Plexus cleaner on the windshield.

The lower portion of the windscreen on my M5 seems to have a region of disturbed airflow. Rain does not shed in that area, perhaps the lower 4" at most.

Is that what you are talking about?

For me it was the entire windscreen. Anybody used RainX on plastic?

I'm using Brillianize and the rain streaks right off in little beads also seams to keep them epoxy filled bugs from sticking so hard. RainX I don't know what it might do to plexiglass. I'd put a good reading on the bottle first.
