I can’t get my short wing MX-7-180 to glide anywhere near 1.5 nm per 1,000 ft.

I guess that drag from 31â€￾ bushwheels and bare undercarriage legs does significantly reduce the glide ratio, and perhaps also the “best glideâ€￾ IAS.

I thought all '7s' used the 32'11" universal wing, no?

From here, http://maulepilots.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=593
(with thanks to Jeremy) the older MX-7s have the short wing:

later M4 30'10" droop tip, 70.5 15/35 then 0/20/40 flaps, 69.5" aileron
M5 30'10" droop tip, 90" 15/35 & 0/20/40 flaps, 61.6"x15" aileron
81-86 M6 32'11" droop tip, 120" -7/0/24/40/48 flaps, 51.2"x16.25" aileron
1986 on M6 32'11" sqr tip, 120" -7/0/24/40/48 flap, 54.6"x17" aileron
'84/93 MX7 30'10" sqr tip, 109.4" -7/0/24/40/48 flap, 53"x17" aileron
'93 on MX7 32'11" sqr tip, 119" -7/0/24/40/48 flap, 60"x17" aileron
MXT and MT 32'11" sqr tip, 114.6"/119" -7/0/24/40 flap, 60"x17" aileron
'84/89 M7 33'8" sqr tip, 126" -7/0/24/40/48 flap, 53"x17" aileron
'89/93 M7(A) 33'8" sqr tip, 126" -7/0/24/40/48 flap, 60"x17" aileron
'93 on all 32'11" sqr tip, 119" -7/0/24/40/(48) flap, 60"x17" aileron
all flap chords are 15"

Incidentally, after about 500 hrs in my short wing 180 hp MX-7, I flew a 235 with 33’ 8â€￾ wing the other day. Climb performance was staggering, but it felt less comfortable/controllable in turbulence and gusty crosswinds. Maybe the “bestâ€￾ is what we’re used to...
