220 Franklin operations

I'm close to purchasing an M4 220C, and was wondering if there's anything unique or specific about operating the high compression 220 Franklin? I'm coming from a Stinson, so I know the background on the overhaul and parts issues, just looking for techniques to help avoid any premature work :wink:

From my experience with the 220;

-It likes to be run at a little higher RPM, I cruise around 2400-2500 rpm.
-Plan on 10gph fuel burn
-A bit harder to start cold when temp get below about 35deg.
-Smooth
-was fouling plugs on the ground when I first got it, always lean after start.

Pretty straight forward engine, I like mine.

wow,, everything stick and rudder just said applies to my IO 360.... totally different engine.. same quirks.....

Thanks, any thoughts on running LOP(dare I ask)?

Also, the cold starts- is that preheated, or a cold soaked engine?

1:1, you are flying a truck, not a mooney, not sure LOP will benefit your equipment, measured fuel flows are important, like GAMIs, I would prob just stick to good ROP techniques if it was my engine. This is just an opinion, I am not a A/P...

Give it a try and see how it performs, try to compare both and see if it helps...
