I will often fly an ILS at 120 KIAS. That's pretty close to what I fly at work so for me, it keeps me dealing with familiar descent rates etc..

Helps fit into the flow better and at 200' minimums you are on a .6 mile final. Well within the capability of the Maule to slow down from there. Try it VMC, see if you like it. IF you don't, then fly the speed YOU want and advise ATC if they ask.

Sometimes I will fly an ILS or non-precision approach at 90 KIAS. That's a bit more reasonable.

Mountainous terrain steep GPS approach I might pull it back to 60 KIAS.

You'll notice all these are multiples of 60. Makes the math easier for time distance computing.

Definitely worth calling ahead. I did that about 20 years ago to land at ATL in a C172. They were very helpful and think they were looking forward to seeing something different. A Maule, now THAT's really different!
