We should pool all this info. As hard as the standard props are to get, we are all likely to need a replacement at some time or another and it would be nice to have a longer prop.

David Wright at Wright's Aircraft in Moltree has an STC to install the C203, but it's only for 76" replacement on the Maules. At one point we had talked and he was interested in maybe adding some inches on the STC to 80 or 82" but not sure that he ever got that done? He would be a good source for simple replacement though, if you're in need of same?

Last I talked to him it was still 76". It is an option but if I have to replace what I have, I'd really like a longer prop.

alternative props for the M-5-210

Post by pastorpilot »

On the subject of props for the Continental IO 360 for the Maule M5 is there a three blade prop approved to help with prop clearance? I have read the posts on various props and was wondering what seems to be the best. I see there are not many options with this engine and configuration. I may be interested in an original prop in good condition if someone replaced it with a different set up.

Cheaper than a fresh 3 blade for prop clearance(if there even was one) would be the extended ABW landing gear.

so here's another question... I have the c209 78-2 which makes it 76 inches... my prop has less than 300 hours since new.. can I just get new blades to mount on my 209 hub which would be cheaper and allow me to go to 80 inches... or do I have to buy a new 203 at 80 inches...not really concerned with prop clearance since I have 25 inches clearance now with my 29 11 10's but the improrved climb and takeoff distance would be nice.. :?:

The C209 is not approved on it's type cert for over 78" or under 72" on it's TCDS, which means either vibration survey never done over 78" on that engine or that vib survey done and failed...

If a person does go with the extended gear does it broaden your prop options?
