15 years of picking up crashed airplanes in AK, not sure if that qualifies as the experience you're looking for...but just don't stall it in. Lots of dead guys that way. The people that live got it down as low as they could and flared it out fully. Flaps or no flaps, depends on what glide distance you need. Fly the plane all the way, don't let it fly you.
