The European Maule Fly-In 2009
Keep the 29-30 August 2009 clear in your diary, it's going to be big.
Sint-Truiden (Brustem) airfield, EBST, in Belgium. If you are going to fly straight line: N50.47'23,00" E 05.12'19.00"!
Aircraft arrive on the Saturday morning (or Friday evening).
Saturday afternoon:
Local area flights, get to know everyone.
STOL displays.
Shortest Take-off competition.
Saturday night:
BBQ, camping on the airfield (under aeroplane wings?).
Sunday morning:
Shortest Landing competition.
Sunday lunch:
Prizegiving (including furthest travelled etc.)
Sunday afternoon, everyone departs.
There'll be food, drink and lots of Maule-chat!
More details later, but put it in the diary now.
Sam.
So, who's coming from across the pond??!!

Coming from across the pond
Sam,
I should have flown my Maule to Scotland from Iowa by then, so the hop to Belgium seems like small potatoes after that trip. I'll be there!

Hi Jeremy,
Date has slipped 2 weeks, to 11-13 Sept (apparently the school holiday clash was an issue!).
We have aircraft coming from the UK, Denmark and Germany so far! Also some interest from Italy and France!
The page is now up on our website (www.prepare2go.com) - go to the aviation section...
Safe flights, Sam.

Hi,
I just noticed that the original date is our airfield's 100 year celbration weekend and so it's good the date was moved and the alternative for people who can't make the September fly-in is coming to Marburg, Germany, EDFN, on 29-30 August 2009 for celebrating 100 years in Aviation.
Greetings,
Speedy

Hi David,
I came through Germany in July last year, mode C only. I was told 'not possible, but...' - what I did (on advice of Flight Planning in Denmark) was to call them up and chat to them. We agreed a route, they took all my details, and then as I entered German airspace they were very happy to have me fly through.
There seems to be flex in the 'blanket ban' - as there are so many aircraft still not S capable.
That was my experience, hopefully yours will be similar or easier.
Sam.

[place. Is it grass and orientated approximately Northeast - Southwest?
Can you give me some airfield details and Germany's Mode S requirements - 'cos I've only got a Mode A transponder.
David[/quote]
Hi David,
yes, it has one grass runway (04/22), 750m. More details are on our website: www.kvfl.de. It is in German, but click on "Flugplatz" on the left column and then on "Anflug" and you find an area chart and a VFR approach chart and pictures.
I have Mode C only. Mode S is legally required when flying IFR, VFR above 5000 ft, in Airspaces C and D (but not in a Control Tower Zone), and in TMZ's (Transponder Mandatory Zones). I had no problem so far flying above 5000 without Mode S, but they will usually not let you in the other airspaces, but it is negotiable. If you have Mode A only, I think it requires you to stay below 5000 and avoid all the airspaces mentioned before, which can be done. Other countries are even worse. I just heard on the radio a controller in the Netherlands send a plane from cruise altitude to 1200 feet or below, because Mode C was not working and they have some, extensive areas in the Netherlands where they don't allow you above 1200 without Mode C (and Mode S in a year or so).
