2017 events

Post by Stinger »

Any fly-ins/events scheduled for January/February 2017? Trying to pick a couple weekends off work now, but I'm not seeing anything beyond December.

We're in the planning stage of getting a winter fly-out event together.

In the meantime as long as this cold front doesn't mess this weekend's weather up too much I plan on heading down to the Critter's Lodge fly-in on Saturday 11/5 in case anyone is looking for somewhere to go. http://www.critterslodge.org/

First one is in the book

A great time had by all that attended, there was canoeing, antiquing and the grand-daddy of them all.... rodeo. WX was perfect with a full moon to cast shadows around the campfire.

RAF Trail #2 is coming up in just under two weeks, you do not want to miss this opportunity as this is the first time to be opened to the public for a fly-in.

Camping AND... BLUE ANGELS!!!!

Post by MizzouMaule »

Join the RAF for a weekend of backcountry flying and camping. The RAF is proud to announce their first Weekend Away at Creighton Island the weekend of March 24-26. The Foundation has had several work party's since mid-2016, but this will be the first event where no work is expected. Instead, they plan to just enjoy and soak in all that this great island getaway has to offer.

At Creighton you'll enjoy being able to park your plane and pitch your tent in the shadow of Live Oaks that are older than the US of A. There are hot and cold showers as well as a limited number of beds in the bunk houses nestled in the forest. In terms of activities you can fish, canoe and kayak, ride or walk to the north end of the island and explore areas essentially unchanged for over a century. Depending on Old John's disposition (the senior resident tractor), they'll hitch up the haywagon and do a tractor pull to the north end of the island for those wanting to explore the island withouth breaking a sweat. If just relaxing on the island is not enough, there's a couple of fly-out options available.

First, the Blue Angels will be performing as part of the Wings over Golden Isle's airshow running this same weekend at the Brunswick, GA airport, which is 16 nm southwest of Creighton. The event sponsors have informed the RAF that BQK will be open to transient aircraft between shows so you'll have the option to fly over Friday, Saturday, or both days if you like. Just be sure to check the TFR once it's published and plan accordingly. If that were not enough, the Grass Strip Foundation is hosting their annual open house at 9GA2 19 nm to the NW all day Saturday the 25th.

Be sure to checkout the mandatory pilot briefing at: http://theraf.org/content/creighton-isl ... y-briefing, which contains details on the ammenities and note that this strip is not for every pilot or every aircraft. Note that bunks are first-come first-serve and that we will not reserve them. Bring food for all meals.

Trigger Gap looks fun, but for some reason, looks like it's the exact same weekend as the RAF Trail weekend at Macintosh Reserve in Georgia.

How did that happen?

Scheduling TWO RAF Trails on the same weekend?

So, if the weather happens to be bad, Flyers miss TWO weekend events instead of just one!

Places to Fly & Camp

Post by mx180a »

Here are two more opportunities to attend the RAF Trail....depending where you are and where you want to go.

I have been to McIntosh before, interesting place as it is not an airport but just a large hay field that is inside a county park. This is a rare opportunity as they usually only allow this once a year.

May is fly-in month here in Alaska. Starts with the Valdez STOL Comp, then The same at Talkeetna, then Skweentna, then Port Allsworth and I think there is another in Kenai..
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Maule Fly-in in Moultrie

Post by Joe Crecente »

I could not find anything online at any Maule websites about the fly in but just see the 22-24 Set 2017 referenced here. Is it on any of their sites?
