Great trip to OSH

Post by Russell461 »

Three M7's flew out from Texas last Friday morning early and met up at Mason-Fower Memorial (K89) for lunch at AJ's (Highly Recommended). Then on to OSH by way of Watertown Muni (KRYV) for fuel. We arrived around 5:30 pm and lucked into a fantastic camping spot in the North 40. Kyle was placed on the end of a row facing East (between the green & white dots on RW 27) and I was parked right beside him facing West. We were able to watch planes land Fri-Sun by just stepping right out of our tents. This was my first trip to KOSH and it was fantastic !

We departed Thursday morning around 9:00 a.m. approximately 10-15 minutes before the airport was shut down due to the breezy crash. I had a TX friend that flew his breezy to OSH and thankfully it wasn't him. Very sad deal being the 50th Anniversary of the Breezy. I landed back at 2F7 at minimums

Other than that, it was a great trip. Hopefully we can make this an annual event. We counted a total of 7-8 Maules that flew in while we were there. Pictures & video coming soon.

I really missed going this year after being there for the 1st time last year.

"Creek don't rise, etc." I will try to fly there in something GA next year.

I was looking at the North 40 rules.

My memory of 2013 was that generators weren't allowed (funny since I was 200 feet from a Honda exhibition tent) but no mention of booze by your plane.

Looking at the current rules, the rules on generators are relaxed and in line with Camp Sholler, but now there is a prohibition of alcohol on the airport in any place other than the vendors.

I sure did enjoy heading back to plane in the afternoon and opening up something alcoholic last year.

Am I reading the rules for North 40 camping correctly.

Is this what you experienced this year?

Thanks

Ooops....we must have mis-read the "no alcohol" part  The Spotted Cow was flowing freely at our campsite and everyone else around us seemed to be enjoying their favorite brew as well. We never saw any official other than the volunteers directing & parking aircraft. I suspect it was put in the rules for liability purposes knowing full well it would not be enforced. We saw several gas powered generators in the North 40 as well; however, they were small Honda units and were extremely quite.

Hey Undaunted, if you arrived Friday, that must have been you parked at the front (east end) of the N40 very close to the entry gate. We got in Saturday late and could only stay till Tuesday AM. We were in row 521. Came by a few times to say hello, but you were out pounding the grounds. Our first time, been trying for 20 odd years. I think I only saw a tenth of what I "needed" to see. Missus and kids also had a great time. EAA.. you guys are Awsome and very organized, very impressed with your Flight Ops! Hope everyone had a safe flight home. Carl

Sorry we missed you Carl. We were parked closest to RW27 between the Green&White dots. We could go back for 10 more years and probably NOT get an end parking spot. We also rode our $39.99 Goodwill bikes by the other Maules in the North 40 and only were able to visit with 2 other owners. Friday arrivals ARE highly recommended. It was lots of fun watching all of the expert landings  as planes came in Friday with the nasty cross-wind out of the North.
