I would love see that feathered bird again. Probably the Maule with the most countries visited.

I'm jealous we have a lot of strips around here but not with the same view. Being in a little hole like that makes my 1600 ft look really long. Maybe some day I'll have to take a tour around the country from a little lower altitude than I normally do.

I got the plane back together and started the engine today, I hope to fly it this weekend and start breaking in the engine, if weather permits . Im looking forward to a great summer of flying--many places to visit, Im hoping to get to your neighborhood in late august, maybe we can get together? And I will definitely plan on the Medford flyin !!

Clear Creek "White Knuckle Fly-In"?

Post by super-maule »

Hello Fellow Maule Pilots,

I didn't intend to split this thread from my good friends in Oregon. That Rouge River Area is awesome. Anyway I was just contemplating a small "White Knuckle Fly-In" at my place in early October. The weather is usually pretty good that time of year.

Clear Creek International is a very challenging place to land with a very tight approach. A Maule or Super-Cub is capable of landing there safely however it's not for everyone. Other options include landing at my neighbor's field, or in nearby Kooskia, Idaho 10 miles by road.

On another note I just bought a sweet 1947 Ford 9N Tractor with a John Deere Brush Hog to keep my airstrip and haystrip mowed. Will keep you good folks informed.

What is your neighbor's strip like?

I think your strip exceeds my abilities and/or my plane's performance.

Hello Doc,

My neighbor's place is smooth and very easy. They hay it every July. The only issue is if there are sometimes cattle in the field that could rub on an airplane. Lots of elk on this field in the spring time, but I managed to harvest one this fall :)

I'm jealous of the elk! I'm trying to pick a spot this year to take the fam and hopefully get my boys exposed to some backcountry hunting.

Christine, the feathered bird is no longer feathered! Getting recovered and painted as we speak. :(
