PNW Maulers,
let's fly to Point Roberts for lunch. Rhy's pick - so he knows more about this place.
Looking forward to get some real flying in. Hope to see a bunch of Maules.

It should be May 4th, the weather is looking like it will be improving. As it gets closer whoever else is going we can set a time. Point Roberts is a nice grass strip that sits out on a point with the runway being 34 and 16. It is intersting because it is an isloated from the mainland US and all roads lead to Canada. There are a couple of places for lunch and it should be a relaxing time to sit and chat. The wind Saturday is likely to be from the WNW so you may get a chance to practice a crosswind landing. Since it is so close to Canadian airspace you might want Victoria Terminal frequency which is 132.7.

If the weather is good VFR I will try to make it.

Is there camping on the field? I may hop over to Friday Harbor to spend the night and make a weekend out of it.

There really isn't much on the field for camping. But Friday Harbor is fun overnight or you could camp at Eastsound (KORS). There are good restaurants for dinner at both. Plus Friday Harbor has a movie theater that has first run movies because the fellow that owns it was a past big guy in Hollywood.

Coming from the South (Everett area) I normally navigate to East Sound Airport KORS then set TECUV waypoint in my GPS and navigate TECUV- 1RL . This keeps me over USA waters ( going into Canadian airspace is no big deal).

Pattern is West side of runway over water.

Unless something has changed my Vancouver VTA chart shows the following:

There is a little triangle 16 mi. radius from YVR VOR (115.9) just North of Cherry Point ( look for oil refineries at Anacortes) contact VIC Terminal 132.7 but otherwise it is VIC terminal at 127.8 above 2500 and below 6000. They probably will give you a squawk which is a good thing due to the heavy traffic between Vancouver CYVR and Victoria CYYJ.

Guys at Victoria are excellent to work with.

When in the vicinity of Pt. Roberts staying below 2500 or 2000 is a really good idea, in fact VIC terminal will probably ask you to do that.

I would have to assume that the Seattle controllers would hand you off to the appropriate terminal.

My experience has been that Seattle App will hand you off to Whidbey App (120.7 east, or 118.2 west of Whidbey) and if VFR Whidbey usually kicks you back to VFR once you leave their airspace which will be about the San Juan Islands (all Islands are 128.25) so you have to contact Victoria Terminal directly. If IFR they will do a direct transfer. No big deal and as Tom said they are usually very friendly. CTAF at Point Roberts is 122.8 .

There is a state park at the most southerly end of Pnt Roberts.
I should be in for a visit Sat as well.

How about 1100 at Point Roberts. I am going to probably not have good email access the next couple days but I'll try to check back in. Myself and Joseph B will be leaving KPAE around 1000 if anyone wants to fly up together. Weather is looking very good and it should be a beautiful day for flying in the PNW. Here is the place we'll probably end up at, not a lot of choices in town. We have found this place to be pretty good though. http://brewstersfinefoods.com/. On the way back if anyone is interested maybe we can try landing at a couple other places.
