Maule Fly-In in July
Will try to make it, regardless of where and when it is in July, depending on weather. It's 1300 sm from here and last year there were fires and smoke in northern Saskatchewan and rain and low cloud in Idaho right up until the last couple of days before the Fly-In at Deep Creek. I figured it was a no-go until a weather window opened up on the 13th then I did 1000 miles from here to the U.S. border that Thursday. Cleared Customs at Whetstone Friday morning and continued on to Deep Creek, landing at midday. No bugs! Fabulous camping! Great weekend! What a hoot! Maybe this time I can talk CoJoe and DumbDog into coming along. Anybody on HF airmobile?

Fly in date
Smoke from forest fires tends to close many of the backcountry strips in August. Ealier in the season has a better chance of having no smoke.

The 2007 Maule Fly In Will Be...
Just an effort to keep the ball rolling can we nail down a date, then work towards selecting a site? Maybe we can get a commitee, two to four Maulepilots, to do a little research and come up with a site? Seems like the third weekend of July was a concensus, July 21, 22, 2007.

Don--
That is the weeekend directly before Oshkosh and I know of a few that will be on the way there already.
The weekend after Arlington is the 13-15 and that will cut it close for some.

I also vote for July 13,14, 15.
I also vote for Johnson Creek because of the following:
1. Good base camp for flying thruout the back country.
2. Excellent facilities including warm showers.
3. Rental vehicles to go into Yellow Pine to eat, drink, etc.
4. Good hiking.
5. Great campsites for those that want to camp and cook.
6. Easy runway, approach, etc. for those that are not so experienced.
We all have a vote and that is mine.

The EAA Arlington Fly In is July 11-15. That is the only reason I suggested the following weekend. (I just googled the site) It might behoove us to investigate any other fly in plans for like the Cessna 180/185's, etc., too. If we were all converging at Johnson Creek it could be too exciting. I'm in major work mode and don't have much time right now, or I'd volunteer to do some research.

Dates
Looks like Arlington is 11-15 and Oshkosh is 23-29.
My $2/100 worth is that waiting to after Oshkosh is going to put us well into fire season and chance of closed areas increases.
The Weekend after Arlington would be a hardship on those going to Oshkosh, as the weekend of the 14/15 would be tough on those wanting to couple a trip to the Pacific Northwest with the fly in. Someone is going to be inconvenienced.
J. Creek or back to Big Creek suits me down to the ground. Do one of the ranches within the Church wilderness have the facilities for us?
Is Sulphur Creek Ranch back on the public list?
