Vancouver Winter Olympics Airspace

Post by TomD »

I just got back from a briefing on the airspace for the upcoming Vancouver Olympics.

Short story:

The restricted airspace runs from Jan. 29 thru March 24 2010.

The CYR185 (TFR) airspace is two 30 mile circles ( figure 8) that center around Whistler and Vancouver international. It extends from 18,000 to the surface.

The most restricted space is smaller but don't even think about going there if you are not a commercial ( greater than Part 91 ) operator.

The 30 mile circle cuts into the US and ends just off the north end of the KORS runway.

Details can be found at:

http://www.navcanada.ca/NavCanada.asp?L ... efault.xml

These guys are WAY serious about not violating this airspace.

If you are thinking about going to the San Juans or North of Bellingham during the 1/29-3/24 time frame. Talk to FSS BIG TIME!!

Good news is they are trying to get the word out by blanketing the area with seminars. The bad news is there are two federal governments involved. The lead agency is the RCMP.
