recover and paint

Post by compassheading »

My 1977 M-5-235 needs to be recovered. The zinc-chomate on the steel tubing has mostly flaked off. I anticipate stripping down to the tubes, blasting the frame clean, epoxy prime on the frame, then recover and paint.

Would like a discussion of things to watch for, things to
add or subtract while that deep into the airplane. Is there any way to avoid removing the intrumental panel? Is there a simple way to remove the intrument panel? A way to remove it as one unit ?

I'd like to hear comments on the various recover fabric systems. Favorite paints and finishes.

Thanks,

Think about any mods, now is the time to install, float fittings, skylight, grab handles, service bulletin #1 horizontal tail to fuslage attach tube. You can view any of the maule service bulletins at the link.
