Happy New Year everyone!

I've been wondering what the purpose of these two cooling tubes is. They appear to be aimed at the oil temperature probe. The tubes originate in the the rear wall of the engine baffle. There is a separate additional cooling tube for the generator.

What is the purpose of these cooling tubes? Are these two tubes necessary?

I have a 73 M5 210c. It's not equipped with those tubes. The baffling improved on later models with this engine. Early models like mine have pretty basic baffling, and pretty sizeable gaps in various places, the largest of which is around the oil cooler. Perhaps your baffling is even more rudimentary, and direct cooling was necessary at the oil pump inlet?

Whatever the case, I would expect that arrangement would completely destroy any pressure differential in your upper and lower cowl, thus dramatically reducing your cylinder cooling. I don't think I've seen any reference to this design on the maule drawings.
