Looking for some prop info or photos from someone please.

1976 M-5 235C, O-540 with a Hartzell HC-C2YR-1BF. Removed engine and prop to work on firewall and clean things up. Prop was due for overhaul. Took prop to Hope Aero in Toronto for the work in March. Got notified a few days later that prop was beyond rebuild limits, for the hub and blades. They did not have another prop handy. Got all the scrap pieces back, along with the spinner backplate, which obviously I should have removed first. Just got the replacement prop today, supplied by Abney Aircraft Propeller, Arkansas.

Prop has the improved hub, good for 350+HP engine variants of the 0-540. This has a beefier flange section compared to the original, photo below, which requires a slight modification of the spinner back plate. I took photos of everything during the disassembly, but failed to record the prop details before sending it in for rebuild.

The question: what is the spacing required for the spinner backplate when mounted to the aft end of the 4 outer prop hub bolts. I talked to Hope Aero today, they indicated .25”, but I found one .50” spacer. I did not get any other spacers back with the old prop. It looks like it should be 1/2”, but the photo I did have does not prove this, but you can see that the rear of the spinner plate sits about 1/8” forward of the forward end of the prop nuts. (6 bolts that go into crank) Would anyone have a photo of this that you could share? A measurement of this spacer? You would need to remove the spinner to verify or see this. Photo of spinner backplate has the whitness marks of a spacer or washers. The fore/aft position of the back-plate is rather important for blade clearance and cowl clearance.

Krautman, sorry I don't have the dimensions handy but maybe I could get them off a discarded Hartzell hub I might have in back of hangar.
I hope you upgraded to the better 81" blades, better still would have been a McCauley 224 prop of 81' or even 86" both of which have more thrust than the old Hartzell. 86" has much more go though a tad louder.

This same prop was so difficult to find, I didn’t even consider getting a different one……I knew I should have asked first! This unit has been pulling this Maule like a champ for 45 years, I’m confident it will be fine. I will go get the new (old) spacers today. I’ll share photos of the spinner plate modification when done.

Piece of cake. Took the spinner plate to Hope Aero, Toronto.
They had a jig for this exact purpose. Cut the plate with rounded corners. Had it done while I waited in a few hours. <$200.
