Oil filler neck removal

Post by C-GNVK »

I have some corrosion on the inside of the oil filler neck( to much time on the ground) an OI-360D and would like to remove it and clean and polish it. It appears to be solidly in place, maybe sweated in place?

I am pretty sure it’s an interference fit. I watched an engine shop owner remove one. He used two propane/mapp gas torches and applied a lot of heat to the accessory case. More heat than I would have thought necessary, but he said otherwise it was not coming out. I would not try as much heat as he used on an assembled engine.

Perhaps there are other approaches? My filler neck has a good bit of corrosion. I live with it.
