M4/M5-210C Shut off Valve vs. Selector Fuel Valve w/Off

Post by Old Piper »

Howdy,

Just curious if anyone has changed out the Selector Valve to include an Off Position, while eliminating the Shut off Valve under the header tank? If so, were you able to get a field approval to do so? It would be nice to eliminate the shut off valve altogether. If this means also eliminating the header tank, why not?
All other models don't sport this setup, with and without IO-engines, why are we limited. (I recall Jeremy indicated it was installed after 1st. Test Flight with FAA, ran out of gas, header tank was installed to get it to pass test. Hasty effort we have been saddled with since.) I understand theory of not having two shut off valves, but a well designed Selector Valve, that has L, R, B & Off would be nice to have. I would think a local FAA would understand logic for removal. Does anyone have knowledge of this possibility?

Tom
