Tail Light

Post by Andy Young »

Anybody got a good used tail position light assembly? The one I’m looking to replace is an incandescent unit made by Glar-Ban, part number 5107-C14. Original equipment in an old M-7 (and likely others). The factory now uses LEDs, but that assembly costs close to $300.

Thanks

Hey Andy, My bulb burnt out so I was trying to figure out the replacement (could not read the number on the bulb) and came across a glare ban assembly that was my match (1998 M7) on ebay. Was just a month or so ago. May still be up for auction.

Good luck
Tim

Thanks!
Not sure if the one I found is the one you were looking at. It has a red lens, but same body, so I can reuse the clear lens that I have.

I have one that has the strobe built into it as well I think it’s a Whelen though. I never knew it had the strobe as it never worked and the lens was dirty. Found out when I upgraded to the LEDs.

Thanks Greg,

I think I’m set, but we will see what arrives from eBay.

I'd like to replace my filament tail light with an LED. What make/model is the factory using?

Andy,
I installed a Uavionix Tailbeacon ADSB in my 87' M5 and removed my factory original with operational bulb. Email me offline and we can see if it will work.

I just stuck an LED bulb into the existing housing, works great. Was I not supposed to do that?

Technically, not without paperwork that says it’s approved, but…

Ok….got a question. After reading the above, I pulled my tail light out. I could see the bulb inside the lens, but the lens didn’t want to come off…before I get a bigger hammer, I just want to make sure that’s the way it comes apart. Lens should come off once the metal housing is removed?? Thanks!

If it is a Glar Ban like mine then yes the lens should pop out of the metal housing. Mine was stuck as well. Didn't use a hammer though, a small flat blade in a few strategic spots. Good luck and don't drop it!
