Pictures of flap bushings for reference

Post by norcal64d »

I took a few pictures of changing the flap bushings for people to reference. Pretty easy to do with a c clamp and something to push the bushing out and its been described on here in the past. I hadn't see any pictures so I figured I would post a few and maybe it will help someone in the future. The pins need to be pushed in due to their dimpling, worked really well to use the c clamp and a socket on the back end.

Then use appropriate thickness of washer on "knurled" pin before cotter key to prevent backing out.
Very Important to use Maule's knurled pin, Not standard AN hardware pin.

I did Mine the same way. I tried a bushing tool my buddy had for Cessna, not even close. It is a pretty easy project.
No great story started with a good idea...

I need to do this for one flap and the elevators. Thanks for the Beta! Did you get the bushings and pins from Maule?

I did, it’s all relatively inexpensive. That being said, the 3/8” OD 1/4” ID x .75” bushing is pretty similar to one sold at Lowes and Home Depot. The pins have been dimpled just below the head and are a press fit so they don’t rotate in the flap side of the hinge. The whole process was very quick and painless.

Just ordered some today! Looks like a great cold, snowy winter's day project!
