Fabric Detail Help

Hi everybody,

I’m looking for any photos anybody might have that show the fabric around the wing root area on the fuselage. This is where the fabric goes over (and sometimes under) that structure that is shaped like a wing rib, then down to either the window or the rear door, depending on which side. I’m most interested in the area aft of the front doors. I have seen this done a few different ways, and would like to see what others have on theirs, or have done at re-cover. Photos with wing off are best, though even ones with just the wing root fairing removed would be helpful.

Oh, and this needs to be on an M-4, M-5, M-6, or MX-7. M-7 is different in this area.

I, ahem, just happen to have the wings off my MX7 for some technical reason... :)
I’ll snap a couple of photos in the Caledonian Skunkworks hangar and post them later today.

I’ll put some photos on Dropbox and try to post some here, but here’s what I found on my MX-7-180:

The side fabric goes up behind the wing root structure and is glued to the main top longitudinal tube.

The roof fabric comes down outside the wing root structure and is tucked up behind the bottom member of that structure (on my fuselage this fabric has evidently somehow caught and trapped water so that the bottom member of the wing root structure is completely corroded).

Is this the original fabric, from the factory?

Do you, or does anyone know if that is how it is typically done at the factory?

I believe it’s the original Ceconite. The airplane has been re-painted at least once (the paint is as thick as the fabric) but there’s no re-cover in the log book.

Is that top part one piece, from one top longeron, across the center stringer and down to the other top longeron, or is it two pieces: one each side, from the center stringer to the top longeron?

Hold on, I’ll need to take my trusty Spyderco to the roof to make sure, but I guess it’s two pieces

The first cut of the fabric was a bit emotional, but now it’s OK. :?

Yup, two pieces. And, for complete authenticity, cover the right side of the roof and tail first. :)
