Maule yoke tube thickness

Post by Eferr »

Hello! Rebuilding some yokes for my M5. Anyone know off the top of their head the thickness to the yoke tubes? I found .065 to be too thick. .05 perhaps? Even thinner? Also, I found the stock tube lengths to be longer than my liking, Can anyone see a downside With shortening them up ~2â€￾?

Cheers!

Don’t know the thickness.

On the shortening question:
Aside from possibly not getting enough throw to achieve full elevator travel, there is also the legal issue of deviating from the type design, which would require a field approval or STC, along with engineering data to support the change.

What do not like about the stock length?

Thanks. I feel like with the yoke full forward it seems a bit unnecessary to have 4-5â€￾ tubing out from the panel. I don't see any functional change in control limitations with the slight shortening. Should also make for an even roomier feel in the front seats.

Sounds like a setup issue. Did the full travel of the yoke hit the stops under the panel, both ways? Or is the stops being had by the rear (tail area - elevator control) instead? I would take a look at that before spending more time/money on touching the tubes/yoke. ref. the drwgs. from Maule on setup.

This maybe why your yoke is out too far. It may just be an adjustment issue. FWIW.

If the yoke is too far in it will foul the mixture control and not rotate left/right enough.
The later rams horn yokes if that's what you have are a little lower so slightly less knee space.

Ah. There’s the observation I knew someone would make. Damnit.
