Stec make a reliable systems. Make sure you select one with heading and altitude hold. Adding glide slope coupling is fantastic but expensive.

Real happy to have AP recent installation in our Mxt-7-180.

Ive always had tough time holding altitude within 50 feet, while managing other duties. Now with altitude hold, life is good!

Step 50 problems

Post by pheastman3 »

Have STEC 50. When in heading mode, either GPSS or heading bug, tracts fine but in a crab format. Nose 5 degrees to right and right wing up 5 degrees. Consequently flying in a crab (I.e. sideways). Anyone having similar problems.

Yes, I’ve experienced similar with S-TEC 60-2.

Correct answer is probably to check and adjust rigging at next maintenance.

Quick temporary “fixâ€￾ is to tweak the flaps and/or manage L/R fuel tank contents and weight of passengers.

P.S. If you have a very skinny right seat pax, consider doubling up or trading for a “traditionally builtâ€￾ one in the “wanted/for saleâ€￾ section on this forum.

Going through the complete rigging set up at least once during your ownership of the aircraft is highly recommended. It is not always evident what changes have occurred during the aircraft's various owners in the past. There are a lot of mechanics out there unfamiliar with aircraft rigging (or at least Maule rigging) that overlook its necessity to make an aircraft behave properly as it moves through the air. If its incorrect and you get it proper again you will love how it flies.

If anyone needs the rigging data, please email me and I'll get it out to you.

I talked to the owner/creator of trutrack autopilot at the aopa event in tulluhoma TN event. He said one of his main reasons for selling to Boeing
besides the obvious one was to certify more types. He said get Maule and Owners to ask and they would do.
Is there anyone interested in getting a 5k autopilot besides me?

I know of two who would buy a digital coupled autopilot tomorrow.

I have an S-TEC 60-2 which I’d be happy to upgrade to a digital a/p.

A friend’s M7 has just had a panel upgrade and has no a/p.

Do you know if Trutrack uses ailerons or the ruttier for heading control?
