brakes rubbing on sidewall

Post by Sam Rutherford »

I have just fitted Goodyear 6 8.50s to replace my Airhawk 8.00s. The brake units are touching the sidewalls (and she's empty of both fuel and passengers).

Something is wrong, any ideas?!

Thanks, Sam.

You need to put spacers between the wheel and the brake disk. You can buy some from Cleveland, make your own, or in a pinch use washers. More than likely you will need to get longer bolts.

The spacers are 1/8" thick, one for each bolt.
Make sure the calipers are on the front so the rotating tyre, if bulging with side load or low pressure cannot grab on the caliper.
