RESTRICTED RPM

My M5 180C has a red arc on my tach from 2000 to 2250 rpm. Is it there because of some engine, prop or fuselage vibration? What is the origin of this restriction. What happens if I operate in this range? Did Lycoming or Maule put on this restriction?

Lycoming engine restriction I think. Check Lyc. engine manual and/or go to www.lycoming.textron.com and file a question.

I was told it was the Prop that was the restriction because the Cubs run the same Motor with out the restriction.

Heres more info...

Placard required to avoid continuous operation from 2150 rpm to 2350 rpm. Applies to 76EM8 series propellers installed on Lycoming O-360 engines except O-360-A4 series with solid front main bearing journal crankshaft. For more info see Service Bulletin R-13, Service Bulletin R-14A, and Airworthiness Directive 69-09-03-R3

The 0-360 CIF is restricted from 2000 - 2250 RPM. It has to do with this particular engine/prop combination. Hartzell said that continuous operation in this range may cause stress, fatigue or something else that is not good.
