what kind of chafe tape?

Post by UP-M5 »

what does everyone have for chafe tape to keep the engine cowling from chafing the boot cowl? what does the factory use? recommendations?

mine had a 2.5" wide strip of cork glued on that worked well, but looked a little cheesy. is that factory? i have looked in aircraft spruce and couldn't find it. any hints?

thanks.

Maules come from the factory without chafe tape. To every one that I sell I fit a 3/4" wide chafe tape which fits between the edge of the boot cowl and the hole for the cowl fasteners. The tape is about 1/16" thick and I attach it using contact adhesive. It is sold as "chafe tape" through a local aircraft parts supplier and is available in several sizes.

I bought a roll from Maule when I was down there. So they will sell It to you.

The cork works OK and is a NAPA part sold in bulk as gasket material. Aircraft spruce sells a 3M tape that is clear and self adhesive, that is what I use. I put it on both surfaces.
