Those that are running 850 tires what pressures are you using? Same pressures for pavement as grass?

Visually, ballpark, the outer groove is bridged by the tarmac/concrete, ie the outer rib is just touching but not all the outer rib in contact.

And 18 PSI is about the lower limit with tube type tires... Much lower and under hard braking, tire bead will slip, pulling valve core out of tube, and makes for an exciting handful if in any kind of confined area....

Its odd how I sometimes see hubcap screws helping tyrespin control.

I put a match mark between tire bead and wheel, 150 hrs no slipping even with hard braking although I do have single puck brakes limiting my brake power and I do keep an eye on the pressure

18 pounds, with single-puck brakes. When I had them on a Scout, with double-puck brakes, I ran at 20 pounds. Never a problem in either case.

Tyre Slip re: 8:50

Post by VH-MEU »

Hi everyone, I've just had a valve stem tear due to slight tyre slip. It's the first time I've experienced this & fortunately, the tyre didn't deflate immediately. I found it flat a couple of days later. NB: Normally run main tyre pressure at around 18-20 psi (single puck brakes) & last landing was off-airport on bitumen with hard braking!
I'm in the process of swapping 8.50 tyres due to landing gear setup tapper edge wear and replacing both tubes as the old ones would be at least 10 yrs old. My question to the form is any suggestions on prevention of tyre slip other than higher tyre pressure or screws into the tyre bead. All the best, Paul
