I had a similar shimmy on my 97 mxt-7. Check out service letter#62 on the maule air website
http://www.mauleairinc.com/service_lett ... ter_62.PDF
I found the steering yoke bolt holes were elongated and the steering yoke bolt was bent on mine. It wasn't very obvious upon visual inspection and just a very slight sloppiness was detectable when inspected by feel. A very apparent wear was noticeable and the bolt was found to be bent when we removed it. I replaced the bolt and yoke as per the service letter and shimmy was gone.

Re: Shimmy Damper
I have the MXT-7-180A from 1997 and my shimmy seems to be empty, not working, not damping, do nothing any more. It doesn't shimmy due to my smooth landings - but I'd like to repair it.
The installed has this number on it, missing a portion of it unfortunately.
Does anyone know where to get a Servicing kit and manual for this one? Can it be serviced?
Alternatively - is there any good replacement? Maybe for one of these maintenance free shimmy dampers that are built into Cessnas etc. nowadays?

Re: Shimmy Damper
Maule sells the "O""ring kit give'em a call 229-985-2045
Refill with 5606 hydraulic fluid , not completely full or you can't get the end cap back in as the rod does not pass all the way through like a Cessna , you have to allow for the volume of the rod and seating depth of the end cap . If you're careful you might be able to "burp" the assembly with a.005-.008+/- feeler gage blade between the end cap "O"ring and the tube. Just use the feeler gage sorta like a shoe horn and be sure it well worn ( meaning smooth rounded edges so as not to be able to cut the "O"ring)

Re: Shimmy Damper
Thanks -I received the overhaul kit and did the job on my shimmy damper.
Unfortunately, I found the Piston Rod being slightly bent. I think it'll work. But if not, I might have to replace it at some point.
Question to this. the Overhaul Kit Instruction mentions three shimmy dampers 015-00100, 015-00101, and 015-02000. As I can not find proper information like size/length etc. anywhere I can't find out which one it is supposed to be.
The Piston Rod Assembly is either 182-03800 or 182-07400
Does anyone know the correct one of my MXT-7-180A?
