MAG COMPASS

Post by flyer »

My M-5 has the mag compass on the left side of the dash on the top in front of the pilot. That is probably the standard position.

I tried to move it to the middle. When I did, it had an error of over 40 degrees with the power off.

It appears that something in the instrument panel is creating a magnetic field that is causing this. That is probably why they put the mag compass on the left side. What would do this with the power off?

Could it be the ADF instrument which I have not yet removed?

Possibly ferrous metal screws and nuts, or something mounted behind the centrestack blanking plate or top cover. Maybe it was swung relative to something in the left position and needs to be re swung to it's new position.
